Mathieu Ruhlmann : Fourteen Worms For Victor Hugo
Mathieu Ruhlmann
Fourteen Worms for Victor Hugo

(the shortest path from pebble to god)

Available now.

In 1853 while in exile Victor Hugo began conducting séances, as a way to communicate with his daughter who had drowned in the Seine.
During these séances he claimed to have spoken to the Ocean, the Moon, Plato, Galileo, and Jesus.
During one of these meetings he received a message'from the otherside' that described the afterlife as a return to the Earth in four states depending on how you conducted your life. If you lived a terrible life you would come back as a stone/pebble and then next step plant then animal/insect and if you lived a good life you would come back as a human again. What interested me in this idea was that life would be involved in everything, that rocks, plants, stones hold this history of life in them and by working with these objects you can extract this history sonically.

Please get in contact for further information.

New Track featured on Translations Of Opacity - For Michelangelo Antonioni (and/oar)

Isola:
a track I submitted for the online companion to the
Michelangelo Antonioni - Trilogy And Epilogue is now available below as well as and/oar .  It is based on Antonioni's 1960 movie l'avventura.  Isola was the working title for the film and translates to 'island' in English.  In the film there is a section where there is an incredible storm taking place and Anna is missing.  A piece of film that always has haunted me since seeing it, where the sound of the ocean and rain has deafened the scene but Claudia believes she hears a boat leaving the island.  I was inspired by this hidden sound captured under the elements.  I wanted to convey this absence of presence on the island with this piece as well this hidden sounds of the enviroment.

The recordings were captured in Northern British Columbia near the Alaskan border on a small island.

It is strongly recommended you visit and/oar and download the complete works for this release and listen to them in their order.
